Things to see in the East part of Glasgow

East End and Merchant City

East End

One of the most important thing to see in the east part of Glasgow is the Glasgow Cathedral. This building is quite impressive by its size and its dark colour. Because it is built on a hill, the cathedral is on two floors, that is quite unusual. To see its full beauty you should climb the hill of the Necropolis. You will have a beautiful view of all Glasgow between the religious crosses and mausoleums. Try to go there for the sunset, it is quite amazing. Take care the cathedral will refuse visitors after 16h45 most of the time.

To switch for a different register, close to the cathedral and the Necropolis you will find the Tennent Caledonian Brewery. You have to now that The Tennent is the locally made Glaswegian beer! You could visit the brewery and savour the beer that you will find in every pub in Glasgow. You can, after that, join the High Street. If you are hungry you will find Merchant Chippie that has been titled as one of the best fish and ships of the city!

Now you will go toward Glasgow Green, the oldest park in Glasgow ( since the XVe century). In this beautiful park (where I recommend to have a run by sunny days) you will find the People Palace. This museum tells the story of Glasgow till the Industrial Age. You will enjoy its beautiful glasshouse with its little café between ferns.
You can go visit at the same time Templeton’s carpet factory that has an original architecture. It is actually inspired by the Doges Palace in Venetia.

Merchant City

Ingram Street will bring you to the City centre. This shopping street hosts the hype shops. The spot I recommend: Hutcheson’s Hall. It was an old hospital with the appearance of a neoclassical temple. A chic restaurant takes place in this building and not just they have a sumptuous interior, but they have the most exposed to the sun terrace of the area.

The next step will be North and South part of Glasgow for sure. I really hope those blog-posts will help you a little bit for your future trip to Scotland!
